Navigating through the quirks and blunders of life

I won’t promise that it won’t be boring, but this is my life…

Packed and ready to go! August 25, 2007

Well, it’s finally done.  I must say though, it’s felt weird not going to work each day.  I’m okay with that though  :)

I have been organizing like crazy though since I’ve been unemployed (eeekkk, that sounds scary!).  I’ve got more done in 3 days than I’ve gotten done in the past 3 years!  Still lots to do though….  but the Hollows (Bran and Kev’s cottage) is calling my name and I can’t wait to get going!  I’m all packed and if it weren’t a 6 hour drive from here, I’d leave right now!

Todd’s on afternoons and is at work working overtime tonight.  It sucks, because he’s missing the night race at Bristol.  And he’s going to be going straight to bed when he gets home – he’s going to work four hours tomorrow morning starting at 645!  And then Monday will be back to afternoons (245-1045).  Ummm…. cottage living just keeps sounding better!

I’m trying to get Moxie’s stuff all packed (yup, she gets to go on vcation too!), but I’m trying to do it without her seeing me.  Whenever I try to pack her stuff, she always wants to play, because she thinks that’s why I have the stuff in my hands!  I hope it’s not too hot in the car tomorow for her – you know how I hate A/C in the car.  A necessary evil when you’re travelling with a doggie though.

I’m looking at all of the things that are going into the car and I can’t believe it’s all for me…and for less than a week!  But you never know how many books you’ll read, or what you’ll feel like reading… or the temperature – hot, cold …both!

Ok, enough talking about it – time to pack the car!

…..oh, and you’d think with all of this time that I’d have had a chance to write and update before now, but I really haven’t!  I’d say that I’ll update regularly from the Hollows – but who knows!!!

The finish line is not only in site – but now it’s closer! August 15, 2007

Today my boss told me that a few of us are going to get together for a good-bye lunch on Wednesday of next week.  Yay!  I love it!  And you know what else I love?  She asked if I’d like to be done right after that lunch.  Ummm….YES!!!!!  I did the responsible thing and didn’t quit when I was being told to from so many people and I really wanted to.  Now, I can be proud that I stuck it out and I get to finish a few days earlier!

What else…being done early is all I can think about right now…

Todd made a fabulous dinner tonight!  He made two different types of pollock – a garlic, red pepper, olive oil and a creamy chive – mmmmmmmm!  He made Spanish rice with diced tomatoes and some very fresh green beans.  Then for dessert (which we never eat dessert…I’m not usually a dessert person) we had the most amazing vanilla ice cream that I think I’ve ever had with fresh strawberries and chocolate sauce.  And this is just a Wednesday!  Can I go for seconds??

I feel like I’m really searhing for something to say.  Why is that, you ask?  Well, because I’ve got tons on my mind right now and I feel like I need to complete some the tasks that I keep thinking about.  Plus, I need to get a part-time job (ya, unfortunately I’m not a kazillionaire and school is expensive) and so far no luck.  I still have avenues and I won’t give up, but it really is a sucky process.  PLUS!  I just found out my school schedule (did I already tell you this?) and I’m going to be going until after 6 like 3 days a week!  Makes it kind of hard to work a part-time job.  I’m really not looking forward to working every weekend again either and unfortunately that is what will be in my future.  I guess you take the bad with the good!

I think I’ll make this short – lots to do….

Oh, I think I mentioned yesterday that all of the wedding pics are on Flickr, but if I didn’t, you can click on my Flickr (bottom of left side column) and see them all.

Oh and Bran…. I ‘m happy to say that there are no grass stains, holes or even dirt spots on my dress… Amazing!!!

I put my hand up on my hip… :) August 14, 2007

The happy couple looking oooooh so beautiful!

I’d like to add more pictures right now… but unfortunately, my hands ae ridiculously itchy and I can’t handle typing.  Check out Flickr (on the left – I don’t even want to spend the time adding a link!) to see more.  I’ll try to add more tomorrow.  Ugh!  This is so ick and so itch!

See, I told you I’d be back today! August 13, 2007

As promised, I have returned!

However, this entry will be less than stellar.  I have just finished registering for all of my classes for the fall!  Yay!  My schedule is a little different than I thought it would be.  The days that I have class (and I’m not in schools doing practical learning), I go until 6 or after.  One morning I start at 9 and the other 2 days I start at 11.  Hmm.  I really figured that I would be starting at 830 or 9 each day and going until 4 or 5 each day.  Whatever, I’m quite used to later hours.  Kinda makes getting a part time job a little more difficult though…

The wedding!  It was absolutely beautiful!  However, I am glad that it’s over.  It was a lot of work on the Friday setting the place settings and getting things all set.  But it was sooo worth it (listen to me – I’m making it sound like it was my wedding!) and I had an absolutely amazing time.  The bride was gorgeous (of course) and the groom looked nice and dapper in his black tuxedo in the sweltering sun.  Never have I been happier to be wearing a strapless dress!  The ceremony was short and sweet.  That was very good because I was standing in a pair of stillettos that were a half size too small (they didn’t have my size and we wore matching shoes) and we were standing on a downhill grade.  By the end of the ceremony my back was screaming and my heels had sunk into the grass in at least 20 different spots.  Pictures were a little arduous, but were eventually finished – and only 45mins behind schedule…

The reception was great.  The food was bbq style – chicken, beef, corn on the cob, baked and scalloped potatoes, and lots of salads.  There were about 200 people and I’m sure that every single one of them felt satisfied.  After dinner there were speeches and at the last minute, the MOH told me that she wanted me to do a speech with her.  Ummmm, ok…YIKES!  So winged it and I think that I did ok, but I have absolutely no idea what I said…

Then it was onto drinking…I meant to type dancing!  Ha!  Now that’s a Freudian slip if I ever saw one!  So we did both of those things and had an absolutely FANTASTIC time!  At the end of our evening I had a little drama because I couldn’t find Todd (I convinced myself that he had fallen into the pond); but he ended up being asleep in the back of our car.  I’d checked the car twice and hadn’t seen him because the parking area was pitch black.  We ended up staying with Bran and Kev that night in their hotel and after taking about 9.5million bobby pins out of my hair, I had a fantastic night’s sleep!

The next morning brought lunch with Bran and Kev and a drive back to Durham to get Moxie.  After a short visit with my parents we were back on the road.  I’m really looking forward to a weekend with very little driving this weekend.

Tomorrow I’ll be back with some pictures (assuming that Todd took some…) and a few more of the more comical moments…

A Justification, An Ultimatum and A Vacation. Ok, there’s no actual vacation, but it fit… August 8, 2007

Before I get writing and forget to mention this, I think I’d better write it….   My friend Mendi is getting married on Saturday (oh go on, give her a hell ya!) and I’m in the wedding.  Now of course, that is exciting news on its’ own, but I’m just saying that with bridesmaid duties come preparations.  Which means that Thursday night I’ll be busy packing and double checking that shoes fit and getting gifts (or envelope…hey, Mendi might be reading this…) together.

‘Soooooooo?’ you say….  Well, I can’t guarantee that I’ll be back to write tomorrow night, I definitely won’t be here on Friday or Saturday and Sunday will be ridiculously busy, so it’s just a maybe for updating.  Now don’t think that I won’t be back.  This won’t be prorastination at work – it will be life.

So there, I have now justified myself to all of you.

And speaking of ‘all of you’…. you like me – you really like me!  I haven’t lost all of my readers as I previously thought and crazy thing… after a month of not updating and only 2 people inquiring as to why… I had two people say something yesterday.  And both just happened to be after I’d already done an update (that they hadn’t seen yet)…  hmmm…  same wave length?  I think so!

Okay, that’s enough elipses for one day.

Oh!  I saw the Bourne Ultimatum on Friday and it was absolutely phenomenal.  The action was really well done and there were some amazing stunts.  At the same time though, the story didn’t suffer at all and developed rather nicely.  I recommend it to everyone.  Everyone, except for those who are afflicted with my particular ailment.  Motion Sickness.  During the action sequences, the camera moved so much (and between different cameras) so quickly that you couldn’t really focus.  Even with the slow scenes where it was just a couple people talking, the camera would bounce around.  Not good for someone like me.  For easily half of the movie, I had to look at the ceiling or close my eyes.  Who knew that I should have taken Gravol before going to the movie theatre?  In fact, when I got home, I went directly to bed.  I felt that sick.  I have no doubt that I would have thrown up if I’d tried to stay up.

That was lovely conversation wasn’t it?  :)

Today was a long, dull day.  Sort of like this entry :)

I’m glad I came by for a chat, but I have a book that I desparately want to finish.  I’m not sure if I want to finish it because I’m enjoying it (it was crappy at first), or if it’s because I’m eager to start the next one in line (which can be seen in the fun little preview on the left).  Either way, I’m off to read!

Like I said earlier, I’ll try to check in tomorrow – but no guarantees!

Hi There, My Name is Becky. August 7, 2007

Have you missed me?  Or maybe I should say – Is anyone still out there?  *knock, knock, knock* Pretty sure that I have successfully lost all of my readers.  Yay me.

To all of you that are actually reading this… So where have I been, you ask?  Well the truth is, that I haven’t gone anywhere and I’ve been right here the entire time!  Sort of.  I’ve barely been online though.  I haven’t been regularly reading any blogs (except 2) and I certainly (and obviously) haven’t been writing my blog.

So the million dollar question – Why haven’t I been updating?

Well, starting at the first of July, I started training my replacement.  This blog is a place where I really don’t want to talk about work – because any of you who are left reading this know, it’s not my favourite place and there is a lot of negativity (and crap) surrounding it.  Let me just say that training has not gone nearly as smoothly or as easily as I would have expected or how I have experienced in the past.  I have shown people everything to do with my job (EVERYTHING!) in two weeks before.  We are now in week 6 and we have (AT LEAST) 2 weeks more left.  I try not to lose my cool or to get frustrated, but seriously, it’s impossible not to.  But alas, I digress.

So what does all of that have to so with me not updating?  Well, when I get home at night – I am absolutely mentally exhausted.  No part of me wants to sit and think and write (okay, a little part of me still wants to) and create logical sentences.

However!  Today I gave the reigns to Jackie (the newbie) and now my ONLY responsibilities are to train her, pt care and a few administrative things (which really are huge) that she still doesn’t know.  Can I tell you how much easier this makes my life?  It’s still really kinda sucks (workwise) right now…but no more talk of that!!!

So here I am, I’m back and hope to be better than ever!  You will need to wait another day for a real entry – hey, I worked 11 hours striaght through with no breaks or lunch today – I’m pooped!

Until tomorrow!
